Migraine Misery Spiralling Out of Control
This quite dramatic title was the headline for the press release of research conducted by Headache Australia and MSD. The research published in May 2011 was survey based with 507 migraine sufferers. The findings were quite disturbing:
81% are searching for a better, more effective migraine treatment
83% do not see their condition improving in the future
40% missed significant family events
60% are depressed or anxious due to fear of a migraine attack
Self assessed 'days lost to migraine' in the last 12 months was 21.7 days.
This mirrors what we see at the Melbourne Headache Centre, with so many people seeking help, but they really don't expect to find it. ‘MIA - Migraine Impact in Australia– survey by Stollznow Research, via national online panel, conducted in April 2011 amongst 507 Australians with migraine aged 18-64. The MIA survey was developed as a partnership initiative between Headache Australia and MSD. The survey was funded by MSD
